Louisville Grows mission is to grow greener, healthier neighborhoods by reducing the urban heat-island effect, to increase the community’s urban tree canopy, and supports recreation along shady routes that tree planting creates. Each participant in the race receives a collapsible, reusable cup with registration. Overall winners receive free professional tree planting on their property. The event is a zero-waste event: no disposable cups will be offered to the runners and water stations will be made available. The event benefits Louisville Grows, a nonprofit organization. Water Step will collect old shoes donations on-site for recycling. The event provides composting, recycling, and waste management stations. Participant awards will be made from renewable resources by a local artist.
